Description: Worn. Incomplete. No outer wrappers (as issued?). Title-page creased (crease across signature) and some damage/slight loss to top-edge. Score once folded down middle, some wear to edges, slight staining. All pages separating, pin hole to top l.h. corners, some creasing to corners. Printing rather blurry

Notes: "Partition imprimée pour le Festival de Musique 1954, Donaueschingen". Facsimile of MS. With Cornelius Cardew's ownership signature to top r.h.title-page, dated "May 1st, 1956". CC famously taught himself the guitar to play in the first UK performance: "Cardew once confided in a friend that he had learnt the guitar part of 'Le Marteau' because he knew very few guitarists were able to play it..."(Tilbury p.119). There a few pencil markings. The first (5?) pages of music are missing, this score begins with p.6, the last page of "après 'l'artisanat furieux'" (which became movement VII). Pages 8-15 are "commentaire I de 'Bourreaux de solitude'", pages 16-25 are "commentaire II" and pages 26-31 are the "Bourreaux de solitude" itself. There are some numbers added in pen that suggest different orderings of the movements (e.g. the last movement is numbered "I")
